Landscape Artists 2
Down on the farm with J. Carolyn Liedtke
After living all of my life in the Chicago metropolitan area, I moved to rural Wisconsin. I live outside of Lake Mills, near the Crawfish River, and a pretty creek runs by my home. You will see my personal landscapes in all of my paintings, because they are painted mostly on location. I very much enjoy watching the changing farm fields--black furrows in the spring, corn as high as an elephant's eye in the summer, the dry, rustling stalks at harvest time, then softly covered with winter's grace.
Would you like a painting of your personal landscape--perhaps your lakeside cottage or homestead? I love commissions! E-mail me at keyart@jefnet.com. Digital reproductions of any of these paintings are approximately 8"x10", matted to fit 11x14 frames.
'Manske Homestead' Original
watercolor 18x22 - SOLD This painting
was sold to the son of Rachel Hein, whose maiden name is
Manske and who grew up in that white farmhouse. Greg gave
it to his mother as an anniversary gift. (Another
painting of this lovely farm was bought by the current
owners--see below.) |

'Picture Barn' Original watercolor 16x20 - $350 You can see this barn with the picture on its side as you travel along I-94 between Lake Mills and Madison. |
'Round Barn' Original
watercolor 10x13 - $350 There used to be many round barns in Wisconsin, but few are left. Farmers found them impractical. But they do make a pretty picture, don't they? |

'Gray Barn with Cows' Original
watercolor 12x16 - $350 A group of us painted these farm buildings along County B between Lake Mills and Johnson Creek. I added the cows later. |

'Early School Bus' Original
watercolor 16x22 - $450 Sun comes up late on February mornings. Mom sees the kids off on the bus, then hurries back into the kitchen for another cuppa. This scene was painted near LaCrosse. |

'Rock River Farm 2' Original
watercolor 12x16 - $350 This is my second painting of the farm across the Rock River along County B. The trees were twice as big as they were three years ago when I painted #1. The sheep were gone, but there was a boy trying not to get his shoes wet, so I included him. |

'Harvesting the Corn' Original
watercolor 11x14 - $350 Didn't have to travel far to paint this scene--it's right next door. The combine was competing with the trees to see which could be the most colorful. |

'Winter Sunrise' Original
watercolor 12x16 - SOLD This is the other version of the Manske homestead, which the current owners, Cathy and Mike Bruening, bought. I made a detailed sketch of the farm, then used photo references for the sunrise colors, which faded too fast to paint on the spot. But the sketch was important--the devil is in the details. |

'Faville Road Farm' Original
watercolor 11x14 - $350 This rural venue is right in the path of proposed development and, I guess, will be gone the next time I get around to painting it. Can't blame the farmers, or the people who want to live in the country...but soon there will be no country left. |
